Ranting and Venting

You'll see links to news articles, snippets from interviews and other web paraphenalia. This will also be a dumping ground for various stuff that I might need to get off my chest. Hence the Ranting and Venting title.

Bush tries to win back public by sniping Democrats

David E. Sanger of the N. Y. Times Writes:
President Bush issued an unusually stark warning to Democrats today about how to conduct the debate on Iraq as midterm elections approach, declaring that Americans know the difference "between honest critics" and those "who claim that we acted in Iraq because of oil, or because of Israel, or because we misled the American people."
Honest Critics? What is an honest critic? As far as I can tell, an honest criticism is that Bush misled the American people by saying that Iraq had WMD and were training Al Qaida. Another good, honest criticism is that we went in for oil. Considering that the reasons that we were told we went in for were outright lies, it is only natural to speculate as to why we really went there for.

Granted, a speculation is not "honest" by definition. The definition is:
Characterized by integrity or fairness and straight-forwardness in conduct, thought, speech, etc.; upright; just; equitable; trustworthy; truthful; sincere; free from fraud, guile, or duplicity; not false; -- said of persons and acts, and of things to which a moral quality is imputed; as, an honest judge or merchant; an honest statement; an honest bargain; an honest business; an honest book; an honest confession.
Then again, our administration doesn't fit that either.

Truth is, we don't know why we went into Iraq because we haven't been told the truth. Until the Bush Administration tells us the truth we won't know. So we'll go on speculating. We can't trust Bush to tell us, can we?
