Ranting and Venting

You'll see links to news articles, snippets from interviews and other web paraphenalia. This will also be a dumping ground for various stuff that I might need to get off my chest. Hence the Ranting and Venting title.

DeLay Resigns as Majority Leader

In a move which he must have thought would be a good PR stunt, Tom DeLay Resigned as Majority Leader of the House. To me, It's like falling flat on your face in front of a large crowd, and while they're pointing and laughing, try to convince them that you did it on purpose. It seems like Tommy boy faced facts and realized that he ain't getting his job back after his jail term... I mean trial.

Remember Bush's campaign promise to bring honor back to the White House? It looks like he failed that one. The only way he could keep that promise is to step down as President.

Oh, that and turn himself in to the police.

ABC News Writes:
It's been quite a fall for Tom DeLay, R-Texas, the House majority leader who formally stepped down today as he awaits trial on charges of conspiracy and money laundering. He retains his seat in Congress but reliquishes his leadership role.

In addition to his own legal troubles, which include charges that he laundered campaign money used in state legislature races, DeLay's association with lobbyist Jack Abramoff has further hurt his reputation. Abramoff pleaded guilty Tuesday to federal charges of conspiracy, fraud and tax evasion in a corruption probe that has linked him with lawmakers from both parties.

Although DeLay had temporarily left his post, calls to replace him permanently had grown within the party.

"The situation is that Tom's legal situation doesn't seem to be reaching clarity," Rep. John Kline, R-Minn., told the Associated Press on Friday, before DeLay's announcement. "There are stories of more indictments or questions associated with Jack Abramoff. And I think that Tom DeLay is going to have to concentrate on that."

Rep. Roy Blunt, R-Mo., has served as acting majority leader and has indicated he'd like the post permanently, although Kline said he supports Rep. John Boehner, R-Ohio, who is chair of the House Education and Workforce Committee. House Speaker Dennis Hastert, R-Ill., is reported to be vying for consideration, and more candidates are sure to come forward.

DeLay insists he is innocent of the Texas charges. He has repeatedly accused the prosecutor, Ronnie Earle, of going after him as part of a political vendetta.

You know, that really pisses me off. He's trying to get out of his crimes by blaming Democrats for "going after him". It's clear that GOP means "Greed on Power".

Apparently the investigation is centering around DeLay's wife, who took a $5000 a month salary from the PAC for doing nothing, so look for developments in that.

Happy day, isn't it?

I am no fan of Delay's apparent behavior, but why blame Bush? Yes, he pledged to keep the White House clean, but Delay is in the Congress. Anyway is he expected to control everybody's personal morals? No one can do that.

Bush has not kept the white house clean. Now we find out about this huge lobby and finance scandal. All Involving Republicans. The GOP, it seems, has been doing this for a long time. That makes the Bush promise to keep the White House clean was a direct lie meaning that the people won't find out about what they were doing. Well we did. Indictments and Impeachments need to start flying.
